REVIEW: GEISHA WIGS ~ Amethyst & Pixie

My poor S3 has went to phone heaven! I don't seem to have much luck with technology - if it isn't my laptop refusing to do as it's told, it's my Nexus' editing software, and now my phone won't turn on. You all may just have to put up with an old school hand-written newsletter (can you imagine the awful doodles? *shudder)
ANYWAY! My lovely derby pals Leeanne and Graeme not only kindly offered to try to fix my phone, they also loaned me a wee camera to use! So I've taken full advantage and have filmed a video review for you all. Be gentle, I'm not that comfortable on camera yet!

I'm reviewing Amethyst and Pixie from Geisha Wigs (which was actually featured in my previous Merry Effin' Christmas post), enjoy!

(And I promise you, I don't look as miserable as I do in this thumbnail....damn you, YouTube!)

I do love the longer, thicker styles of wigs, and I'm still getting used to wearing shorter wigs like Pixie and Pinky. But all in all, I'm rather pleased with my new additions to my wiggy collection - they bring my total up to 10 wigs, with one more on the way...eek!

Have you tried anything from Geisha Wigs? What's your favourite? If not, take full advantage of their sale, and even once that's over you can use AMIIGEISHA at the checkout to get 10% off! Not only that but if you order an in stock wig before the last posting date (20th December) you'll have pretty new hair to wear for Christmas or New Year :D

Love,
Amii

DISCLAIMER: Amethyst was sent to me to review by my sponsor, Geisha Wigs. This does not change my opinion which as always remains honest and open. Discount code cannot be used in conjunction with any other sales or codes.

MERRY EFFIN' CHRISTMAS #4 : DARYL WATSON ART

Welcome to the next post in my Christmas gift guide! Allow me to introduce Daryl Watson, an up-and-coming apprentice at Rock 'n' Roll tattoo studio in Glasgow, who paints these amazing neo-traditional-inspired pieces. I caught up with him for a mini interview...

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DRAWING FOR, AND HOW DID YOU DEVELOP YOUR
PARTICULAR STYLE?
I've been drawing my entire life due to my family being very creative and always pushing creativity with me and my siblings, but I've been fascinated with tattoo art since I was about 14. I started taking it seriously, painting more frequently and developing my own style from age 17. I developed my own style by simply looking at others, seeing how other people create work and learning as much as I coud from that, this was general artists as well as tattoo artists.

WHAT DO YOU DRAW INFLUENCE FROM?
My influences come from a lot of things, one of my main ones is films - I watch a lot of movies and with there being loads of crazy blockbusters filled with CGI it's very easy to see why. I also gather imagery from wildlife and architechture, fine art and illustrations, and then the obvious one - tattoo art.

WHO ARE YOUR IDOLS, IN BOTH TATTOOING AND ART?
I don't really have any idols, but tattoo artists I really admire are Eckel, Tiny Miss Becca, Greg Whitehead, Neil Dransfield, Xam, Antony Flemming - just to name a few.

DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING EXCITING PLANNED FOR 2014?
Just to progress in my tattooing, paint more, and I would like to work some conventions maybe later on in the year once I'm a bit more confident.

Here's some examples of Daryl's work!

Daryl's prints are always very well priced, and he offers them at any size. Art prints can make a wonderful gift for a loved one this year, especially as you can make it as personalised as you like!
Some of these are commissions, and some are available as prints - and of course, he can offer you custom work too! Check out his BigCartel here, and you can keep up-to-date with his work on Tumblr and Instagram, especially as he's moving to work in Rock'n'Roll in Dundee after the new year, so you can even be tattooed by him as well!

WIGS, WONDERINGS AND WONDERFUL THINGS.

For those of you who do not know, I suffer from a condition called trichotillomania. I didn't even know it was an actual 'thing' until last year: all I knew was, since I was about 12 I've been compulsively pulling strands of hair from my head without being fully aware of it. As a result, my hair has very thin patches throughout it, and is never all the same length due to hair patches growing back. My hair also falls out when I am stressed, leaving me with even more patches all over.

Last week, my scalp was aching from me pulling for a few hours while I was watching a film. I don't even know what I'm doing, until I go to move something and there's a pile of hair sitting on top of it - it's pretty disgusting and it hurts to see, but I can't help it. I decided to go for a nice hot bath, and when I went to rinse my hair a HUGE clump of hair came away from the back of my head, leaving a palm sized bald spot. I almost burst into tears - the last few months of stress and new medication combined with the trich have finally taken their toll. So I made a decision: to shave it off.

With the help of my wonderful, understanding friend Leigh-Ann, who cut it on Monday night. It's not all fully gone, we've left a section at the front and my tiny fringe, but even then I think that may come off once I get used to having short hair again :) I'm feeling mega enlightened and liberated through this, knowing it's just hair and will grow back - and I have the power to do so.

This is where I'm very grateful for my sponsor, Geisha Wigs. I've found over the last year or so of wearing wigs I've gained confidence, and feel more feminine in the way I look, not to mention have the ability to change my hair up every day without any extra cost. It takes less than five minutes to shower, then I can just pop on some make up and throw on a wig then I'm ready! I've amassed quite a collection of wigs so far (variety is the spice of life as they say!)...

From top left: Winter; Caramel; Wren; Fire.
From bottom left: Jewel; Waterbaby; Noir; Pinky

The sale is still running over on the site - why not check it out and get a couple of wigs in time for Christmas? There's just been a HUGE restock, join the wig revolution! Also, one of her wonderful sponsored models, GoldyLoxx, has started blogging! Go and show her some love here!

Thank you all for reading, and welcome to the new followers that have joined in the last couple of days! There's lots more to come, and I can't wait to share it all with you :)

Lots of love,
Amii

MERRY EFFIN' CHRISTMAS #3 : BEARDCRAFT

We've got one for the lads now! I'm delighted to feature BEARDCRAFT, an emporium for facial hair aficionados everywhere. From combs, to oils and wax, it's a one-stop-shop for anyone looking to maintain a cracking beard or 'tache. It's run by Lewis, who not only rocks an immense beard, he's also kindly allowed me me a mini interview with him about the shop:

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO OPEN BEARDCRAFT?
I had the idea for Beardcraft after competing in the British Beard & Moustache Championships 2013. I was talking to all these guys with incredible facial hair and a common complaint was having to buy from overseas, pay ridiculous shipping and then import tax on top of that. So decided to buy in products from all over the world and stick it all in one place to make life a bit easier for folk!

I KNOW IT'S A RELATIVELY NEW BUSINESS, HOW QUICKLY HAS IT TAKEN OFF?
I opened in December 2012, things started out slow but that allowed me to get my routine figured out and iron out any problems. Things grew quite steadily until I decided to relaunch the shop in November, with a new layout and on a different platform. The response to the new store has been overwhelming!

DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING EXCITING PLANNED FOR 2014?
For 2014 I think I'd just like to seee things continue growing as they are. I do have a list of products I'd like to add to the Beardcraft family, I'm also working on a few things of my own!

Here's my top ten from the store!

You can keep up with Beardcraft on Facebook, and you can also follow their antics on Instagram - be sure to drop them a line if you're looking to get your favourite fella some beardy goodies!

Love,
Amii
